My name is Chris Jones and I have been making handcrafted stoneware pottery since 1990. Much of my work was inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds my former home on Amelia Island, FL. There is a great variety of interesting sea life and all the tones of our lush forests in North Florida. I have recently re-located to the mountains of Western North Carolina. I love the diverse landscapes all around my new home and studio. New work is evolving from this change so check back once in a while for updated works. All pottery made at my studio is made by hand employing a combination of wheel throwing and hand-building. All of the glazes used are formulas developed and altered through the years and come from a multitude of sources. I use copper greens, copper reds, cobalt blues, rutile blues, tenmoku, and a variety of other earth-tones. Because each piece is handmade, there will be slight variations in the color and the finish of the glaze. That is the beauty of handmade pottery! All of my work is high fired to over 2,300 degrees F in a gas kiln. I use lead-free glaze formulas, and all of the pottery is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. For examples of my work check out the Gallery page on this site. Because I make so many different items, it is hard to include them all on this site. If you find yourself wondering if I make a certain item and you don’t find it here, email me and I will see if I can help you. I also make a variety of fish, sea turtle, and manatee bowls and platters and decorative wall hangings all in nearly 20 different glazes. All pottery styles are available in each of the glazes. I look forward to hearing from you!
